
Blended & Classroom Paediatric First Aid (PFA) Level 3 Courses

To meet the requirements set by Ofsted, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), and the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW), individuals working in early years environments — including pre‑schools, nurseries, playgroups, and schools — must complete the Paediatric First Aid (PFA) Level 3 (VTQ) & (RQF) qualification.
This course is available in blended, classroom, combined, and blended‑combined formats, offering flexible learning options to suit different settings and staffing needs. More information about combined courses can be found here.
The Paediatric First Aid Level 3 syllabus is designed to not only meet but exceed the standards set by Ofsted, CIW, and the UK and European Resuscitation Councils Guidelines 2025, ensuring learners receive the most up‑to‑date and comprehensive training.

This qualification includes a certified 12‑hour CPD Statement
Unit One
1. Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider.
2. Be able to assess an emergency situation safely.
3. Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive.
4. Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who are choking.
5. Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding.
6. Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is suffering from shock.
7. Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with bites, stings and minor injuries.
Unit Two1. Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints.
2. Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected head and spinal injuries.
3. Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose.
4. Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with an acute medical condition or sudden illness.
5. Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is experiencing extremes of body temperature.
6. Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who has sustained an electric shock.
7. Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with burns and scales.
9. Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with anaphylaxis.

The Paediatric First Aid Annual Refresher course is highly recommended (but not compulsory) to be completed by anyone, that has completed the 2 day Level 3 Paediatric First Aid Course once a year to refresh their training.
