Health & Safety Level 1 & 2 (VTQ)

Course Information

We provide two Health & Safety courses. Our Health & Safety Principles in the Workplace Level 1 (VTQ) is designed for employees to gain awareness of regulations, accident prevention & procedures to keep your workplace as safe as possible & our Health & Safety in the Workplace Level 2 (VTQ) course is designed to take your health and safety training to the next level and learn how to keep everyone safer in your workplace. .

 

The Health & Safety Principles in the Workplace Level 1 (VTQ) & Health & Safety in the Workplace Level 2 (VTQ) courses syllabus is designed to comply with and exceed the  Health and Safety Executives requirements under the Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 & all subsequent updates.


All Every Second Counts First Aid & Safety Training's courses are evaluated for quality assurance to ensure we comply with these regulations and are independently certified as conforming with universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Guidelines.

The Health & Safety Principles in the Workplace Level 1 (VTQ) courses come with a certified CPD Statement of 4 hours & the Health & Safety in the Workplace Level 2 (VTQ) comes with a certified CPD Statement of 5 hours.

1. Understand the importance of health and safety in the workplace.

  • 1.1 State what is meant by health and safety at work. 
  • 1.2 Define the key terms used in health and safety. 
  • 1.3 State the main legal responsibilities of employers and employees with respect to health, safety and welfare in the workplace.

2. Understand the scope of hazards and risks in the workplace.

  • 2.1 Indicate the hazards and risks with reference to: Slips trips and falls, Working at heights, Manual handling, Hazardous substances, Machinery and vehicles, Electricity, Fire and Stress.

3. Understand the range of workplace conditions that can affect health and safety.

  • 3.1 Identify the benefits of maintaining a tidy, well organised workplace.
  • 3.2 State the importance of maintaining suitable environmental conditions.
  • 3.3 Outline the welfare facilities that should be provided.

4. Understand the requirements for workplace procedures.

  • 4.1 Explain the need for reporting accidents, ill health, dangerous events and near misses. 
  • 4.2 Identify the purpose of first-aid provision. 
  • 4.3 Identify the types and uses of personal protective equipment. 
  • 4.3 Outline the importance of personal hygiene.

Unit 1

1. Understand roles and responsibilities for health, safety and welfare in the workplace.

  • 1.1 Outline employers and employees’ duties relating to health, safety and welfare at work. 
  • 1.2 Outline the consequences for non-compliance with health and safety legislation. 
  • 1.3 Outline the requirements for training and competence in the workplace. 
  • 1.4 Outline the ways in which health and safety information can be communicated. 

2. Understand how risk assessments contribute to health and safety.

  • 2.1Define the terms 'hazard' and 'risk'. 
  • 2.2 Outline the process for carrying out a risk assessment. 
  • 2.3 Describe how risk assessment can be used to reduce accidents and ill health at work. 

3. Understand how to identify and control the risks from common workplace hazards

  • 3.1 Describe the hazards that may be found in a range of workplaces. 
  • 3.2 Describe how hazards can cause harm or damage to people, work processes, the workplace and the environment. 
  • 3.3 Describe the principle of the risk control hierarchy. 
  • 3.4 List the aims and role in medication administration. 
  • 3.5 List examples of risk controls for common workplace hazards. 

4. Know the procedures for responding to accidents and incidents in the workplace. 

  • 4.1 State the common causes of workplace accidents and ill health. 
  • 4.2 Identify the actions that might need to be taken following an incident in the workplace. 
  • 4.3 List the arrangements that should be in place in a workplace for emergencies and first aid. 
  • 4.4 Outline why it is important to record all incidents, accidents and ill health.
